Bariatric surgery-friendly restaurants in NE

by yitka graham

This app will help people who have had bariatric surgery to find restaurants which will cater for their dietary needs

Many people who have had bariatric surgery find that eating out can be difficult as they need smaller portions of food. Sometimes requests for just a starter, or a child's portion are turned down, or ordering a main course and not being able to finish it leads to awkward questions from restaurant staff and make what should be a happy occasion distressing.
Many people do not like to tell others they have had bariatric surgery, so requesting smaller portions without having to explain why may also be embarassing.
This app will help people to find restaurants and other places to eat where people who have had bariatric surgery can enjoy themselves without worrying about being placed in difficult situations.

I do understand your points, but you need to consider that the map will simply be an empty map until people add restaurants and food vendors to it. The more people who find it useful (for whatever reason) the more places are mapped and the more useful a tool it is.

Thank you for your comments. My aim is to help bariatric surgery patients with this app, as we know there is an identified need. This app will focus on their needs, but if other people want to use it, then that is a bonus. People who have had bariatric surgery have a range of needs and this app is being created for them. They struggle enough to have their needs met and need something specific.

I think this is a great idea too and agree that the app will have more appeal if aimed at a wider audience, which I also think will make it more sustainable. I would definitely use the app. It would also be useful to know which places offer a good range of healthy options too, not just smaller portions.

I think this is a really good idea. I wonder if as an app it might have wider appeal if were available and accessible to anyone wanting to know where they can get small portions - I'm thinking that many older people have reduced appetites and so perhaps this app would also be useful for them (or their families) when choosing somewhere to eat.

I like the idea, get my bypass op done on Tuesday and won't know of anywhere I can then go out for a meal without having to explain why I want a small portion. Well done for thinking about this x

This is why this app needs to be created. No one having bariatric surgery should be put in a difficult position when eating out. Wishing you all the best for you bypass next week and thank you for your support xxx
