BAMER Women & Girls guide to Cultural venues is a place to celebrate the best places, projects, organisations and venues to visit but also to question practise further, and to raise our voices on aspects that should improve. Do Cultural, Heritage and Arts venues and organisations give true access, representation, participation & support to BAMER women and girls?
ABOUT BAM! SISTAHOOD
The BAM! Sistahood! Project is an intergenerational community led digital archive project that focuses on the cultural, social and political heritage of four generations of Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic and Refugee (BAMER) women in the North East of England, an untold and so far undocumented chapter of regional history.
BAM! SISTAHOOD believes in empowering and skilling up women to self represent their heritage in an authentic way and take ownership of that heritage, Participants, volunteers, the Angelou Centre and women and black led organisations have developed this project in partnership with academic institutions, cultural and heritage organisations and artists across the region.
Collectively we will Unravel, Research, Document, Create, Promote, Share and Archive Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic and Refugee women’s Heritage.
About The Angelou Centre
One of the few surviving ‘black-led’ women’s projects in the North East, the Angelou Centre is well known and regarded as a quality community organisation and training provider where BAMER women are supported by a team of multilingual and culturally diverse staff and volunteers. Our passion and commitment to advance economic and social independence for BAMER women and children has enabled us to establish and develop an organisation that addresses the wide-ranging needs of our beneficiaries. www.angelou-centre.org.uk
