HearAdvisor

An app that rates and lists venues from the perspective of the hard of hearing, a trip advisor for the hard of hearing :)

The community hearinghacks.com is starting an independent movement of DIY health. Users are gathering in London and online to build hacks that can improve life with hearing loss. The department of HCI at UCL are conducting a project of action research with the Hearing Hacks community, and are providing some of the materials and skills to help the ideas of the community to come to reality.

This is one of our first hacks: an app that shows where the best venues are. Why do we need this? Because it is challenging for who wears hearing aids to hear a conversation in loud cafes and bars, which makes it frustrating to meet up with friends or colleagues. We think that having a user-contributed map of venues with relevant ratings can be incredibly useful!

Some features that would make up the ideal venue:

- few people
- no background music
- backgarden
- no games
- hearing loop

We are trying to gather enough supporters by our next Meetup, when we'll hopefully be able to build the app on appmovement.com!

Hello supporter!

I wanted to thank you again for making the HearAdvisor app happening. And wanted to ask a little more of your help.

Now that the app is out, it would be great if you could add a few hearing loss friendly venues around you. Even one or two, or three or five. Whatever you have the time for.

If you voted the app but are not aware of any hearing loss friendly venues because you don't have hearing loss yourself. Then don't worry. You can still help by sharing the app if you know someone who will enjoy it.

So, in simple steps:

1. Download your app from one of these links
iOS: https://itunes.apple.com/in/app/hearadvisor/id1135806244
Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details…
2. Register (or login with the credentials you used when you rated the app on app-movement)
3. Add a few venues you know in your area and rate them. Remember to add a review with some text to make the review more useful
4. Report here feedback and problems on our Facebook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/1036749189734536/

Ta'!

Thank you again,
Gianluca
